The two organisations signed a Collaboration Agreement on Wednesday, August 13, 2026, at Konza Technopolis, bringing together government stakeholders and technology industry leaders in a move aimed at strengthening Kenya’s digital economy and positioning the country as a regional hub for cloud computing, innovation and technology.
The partnership will focus on four key areas: business development and market engagement; skills development and workforce enablement; infrastructure and technology alignment; and innovation ecosystem and start-up enablement.
Under the agreement, the Technopolis Development Authority will work with AWS to support public sector institutions undertaking cloud-first digital transformation initiatives. The partnership will also facilitate professional certification for KoTDA staff and Kenyan youth on AWS technologies, alongside access to technical expertise in areas including data management, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
The agreement further provides for technical leadership and oversight in establishing an AWS Outpost at Konza to support hybrid cloud solutions. It will also facilitate the establishment of a Startup and Innovation Centre of Excellence at Konza, creating opportunities for startups and scale-ups to access AWS partner programmes, including cloud credits and technical mentorship.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, KoTDA Chief Executive Officer John Paul Okwiri said the agreement was a significant step towards advancing Konza’s vision as a national platform for technology-driven economic development.
“This Collaboration Agreement marks an important milestone in our journey towards steering the country to a knowledge-based economy,” Okwiri said.
He said the partnership would combine global cloud expertise with Kenya’s ambition to build a resilient, skills-driven digital economy.
“Through this collaboration we are creating an environment where innovators, start-ups, businesses and talent can access the infrastructure, skills and opportunities they need to develop solutions that can scale locally and globally,” he added.
Okwiri said the partnership would also support KoTDA’s broader ambition of anchoring Kenya’s national digital transformation agenda by positioning Konza Technopolis as a competitive destination for global technology investment and a catalyst for East Africa’s digital economy.
AWS Public Sector Lead for West, East and Central Africa, Robin Njiru, said the collaboration would combine AWS cloud capabilities with Konza’s growing innovation ecosystem.
Njiru said the partnership would strengthen digital infrastructure, develop future-ready skills and create opportunities for startups and businesses to innovate and scale.
“AWS is pleased to partner with the Technopolis Development Authority in supporting Kenya’s digital transformation ambitions,” Njiru said.
He said AWS had identified immediate areas of action that would deliver benefits to Kenyan youth, innovators and technology professionals.
“We look forward to working closely with the Authority to translate this partnership into tangible opportunities for Kenya’s technology ecosystem,” Njiru added.
The partnership is expected to provide a platform for connecting global technology capabilities with Kenya’s innovation and digital economy ambitions while expanding opportunities for local talent, enterprises, startups and technology innovators.
The collaboration comes as Kenya seeks to strengthen its digital infrastructure and build a workforce equipped with emerging technologies, while positioning Konza Technopolis as a centre of excellence for innovation and technology in the region.
