MOMBASA, Aug. 5 – Smart Applications International has unveiled Smart PharmaLink, a digital pharmacy management platform aimed at transforming pharmacy operations through automation, data analytics and integrated workflows to improve efficiency, patient care and regulatory compliance across Kenya's healthcare sector.

The platform was launched during the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association (KPA) Annual Scientific Conference in Mombasa, where pharmacists, healthcare professionals, policymakers, regulators and industry stakeholders gathered to discuss the future of pharmaceutical practice and healthcare delivery in the country.

The company said the new solution marks another milestone in its efforts to leverage digital technology to strengthen healthcare systems by improving service delivery, operational efficiency and access to quality healthcare.

Speaking during the launch, Esther Macharia, Group Director for Hospital Business at Smart Applications International, said pharmacies remain one of the most critical touchpoints in healthcare and require digital solutions that go beyond traditional inventory management.

"Pharmacies are at the frontline of healthcare delivery. As patient expectations continue to evolve and the healthcare landscape becomes increasingly data-driven, pharmacies require digital platforms that go beyond inventory management to enable smarter decision-making, operational efficiency and better patient outcomes. Smart PharmaLink has been developed to respond to these needs by providing an integrated solution that supports pharmacists in delivering safer, faster and more efficient healthcare services," she said.

Macharia explained that Smart PharmaLink is designed as a comprehensive end-to-end pharmacy management platform that addresses the operational and regulatory needs of modern pharmacies. The system integrates key functions including patient management, prescription processing, inventory control, procurement, dispensing, billing, reporting and business analytics into a single intelligent platform.

According to the company, the integrated approach is expected to streamline pharmacy workflows, improve inventory visibility, minimise stock losses, strengthen regulatory compliance and enhance patient-centred care.

The platform also combines intelligent automation with real-time reporting, enabling pharmacy owners and managers to monitor operational performance, inventory movement, sales trends and customer interactions more effectively. Through advanced analytics, pharmacies can make informed business decisions while maintaining high standards of pharmaceutical practice and patient safety.

The company noted that the platform further improves prescription tracking, reduces manual errors, enhances inventory accuracy and supports more efficient stock management in an increasingly regulated and competitive healthcare environment.

Macharia said the launch reflects the company's broader vision of building connected healthcare ecosystems where healthcare providers, insurers, patients and institutions are linked through secure and interoperable digital solutions.

She observed that digital transformation within pharmacy practice will play an increasingly important role in supporting Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by strengthening medicine management, improving continuity of care and enhancing the overall patient journey.

The company added that the launch reinforces its continued investment in digital innovation across the healthcare value chain. Over the past two decades, Smart Applications International has developed integrated digital health solutions covering biometric identity, hospital information systems, insurance administration, healthcare analytics, artificial intelligence and claims management for governments, healthcare providers, insurers and development partners across Africa.

Speaking at the event, Harrison Muiru, Group Managing Director of Smart Applications International, said the future of healthcare depends on connected digital ecosystems that empower every stakeholder to make better decisions.

"Healthcare transformation requires every component of the healthcare ecosystem to evolve together. Pharmacies play an essential role in improving patient access, ensuring medicine availability and supporting continuity of care. Smart PharmaLink represents our continued commitment to developing digital solutions that strengthen healthcare systems, improve operational efficiency and enable healthcare professionals to focus on what matters most delivering quality care to patients. We remain committed to partnering with the healthcare sector to build smarter, more connected and more resilient health systems across Africa," he said.

Muiru noted that the unveiling of Smart PharmaLink demonstrates the company's commitment to working closely with healthcare professionals and industry stakeholders to advance practical digital innovations that address the evolving needs of the healthcare sector.

He added that as healthcare systems continue embracing digital transformation, the company will remain focused on delivering technology solutions that improve transparency, strengthen accountability, enhance efficiency and ultimately support better health outcomes for communities across the continent.
