Nairobi, Kenya, October 15, 2026 — The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) will host an international energy conference in November to mobilise investment and partnerships aimed at transforming Africa’s renewable energy potential into industrial growth and economic opportunities.
The third Sustainable Energy Conference (SEC) 2026 will take place from November 24 to 27 at the KenGen Olkaria Geothermal Spa in Naivasha, bringing together more than 1,500 delegates from over 80 countries.
Themed “Powering Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution,” the conference will connect investors, financiers, utilities, project developers, regulators and businesses to explore ways of financing clean energy projects and expanding access to reliable, affordable electricity.
KenGen Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Eng. Ronoh Kibet said Africa’s energy transition required more than natural resources, emphasising the need for capital, strategic partnerships and effective implementation to translate the continent’s potential into economic prosperity.
“Our continent does not suffer from a shortage of resources. It suffers from a shortage of investment in transforming those resources into prosperity,” Kibet said during the conference’s media launch in Nairobi on Thursday.
He noted that Africa accounts for approximately 20 per cent of the world’s population but attracts less than three per cent of global energy investment and only two per cent of global clean energy investment.
Kibet added that approximately 600 million Africans remain without access to electricity, while unreliable power continues to constrain businesses, industries and communities.
He said the impact of energy investment should be measured not only by electricity generated but also by the industries powered, jobs created and livelihoods improved.
“Electricity is the enabler. Industry is the multiplier. Prosperity is the ultimate dividend,” he said, adding that the conference would seek to move discussions from potential to bankable projects and tangible economic outcomes.
According to KenGen, the conference will focus on four strategic pillars: benchmarking, networking, finance and trade. Discussions will cover investment mobilisation, project development, strategic partnerships and carbon trading.
Organisers are targeting more than 200 investors, 40 financing institutions, 100 utilities and power producers, and 100 exhibitors, alongside government officials, development finance institutions and companies seeking cleaner energy sources for their operations.
Kibet said bringing the different stakeholders together would help bridge the gap between identifying renewable energy opportunities and developing commercially viable projects capable of attracting financing.
“SEC 2026 is designed to move the green energy investment conversation from opportunity to execution,” he said.
The conference will also showcase the role of geothermal energy in supporting industrial development, with delegates expected to visit the KenGen Green Energy Park in Olkaria.
The park is intended to attract industries and enterprises seeking reliable renewable electricity, linking clean energy investment to manufacturing, enterprise development and employment creation.
Kibet said participants would gain first-hand insights into how investments in Olkaria had supported growth and how the park could create opportunities for businesses seeking sustainable energy solutions.
KenGen said more than 90 per cent of its installed electricity generation capacity comes from renewable sources, principally geothermal, hydro and wind.
The company is positioning the conference as a platform for advancing investment and partnerships across Africa’s sustainable energy sector, with an emphasis on turning renewable energy resources into productive economic activity.
Kibet called on investors, financiers, utilities, technology providers and project developers to participate in the conference and establish partnerships capable of delivering lasting results.
He said the success of SEC 2026 would ultimately be measured by the investments mobilised, partnerships established and economic opportunities created beyond the event.
